Niagara Falls, Ontario – The Niagara Parks Commission (NPC) is pleased to present Northern Owls, a travelling exhibit from the Royal Ontario Museum that offers a unique look into the intriguing world of owls.
The exhibit is the first of NPC’s planned Rooted initiatives, developed under the provincial government’s Ontario 150 Funding Program and is designed to celebrate the natural and cultural heritage of both Niagara and the province. Northern Owls will be taking place from February 13 to April 17, at the fully accessible Butterfly Conservatory.
This family-friendly and educational exhibit features 11 different specimens of Northern Owls and focuses on the fascinating and lesser-known aspects of owl behavior, biology and lifestyle. The exhibit will be presented in three sections: “Feathers”, “Hunters by Nature” and “The Ultimate Northern Owl”, each filled with interesting and thought-provoking facts and anecdotes about these secretive birds.
To accompany the exhibit, the Butterfly Conservatory will also host live raptor displays featuring birds of prey provided by the Canadian Raptor Conservancy. Following the schedule below, there will be live indoor raptor displays held within the Conservatory, as well as free live outdoor raptor demonstrations to be held in front of the adjacent Legacy Garden within NPC’s beautiful Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture.
The species of raptors on display will vary as the temperatures climb over the duration of the exhibit and may include: the Great Horned Owl, Bald Eagle, Red Tailed Hawk, Snowy Owl, American Kestrel, Eagle Owl, Golden Eagle, Barn Owl and Peregrine Falcon.

The fully accessible Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory is located at 2565 Niagara Parkway, on the grounds of the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture. The new exhibit is included with regular paid admission.
