With Courage, Vision, and Action, We Can Thrive!
A Message from the Green Party of Canada

The Green Party has a message for Donald Trump.
We can weather his trade war and attacks on our sovereignty. We can even become stronger for it. We just need vision and the courage to act.
Trump underestimates Canadians. In the wake of new tariffs and ‘51st State’ threats, he said that, without the U.S., there’s “no way” our country can survive.”
But Canadians have never lacked for courage and vision. At the Green Party, we see these qualities everyday in our grassroots movement, in like-minded people and groups, and in Canadians across the country.
But there’s a monumental task ahead of it. So it’s time we put these qualities to work.
Even before Trump came to power, the U.S. wielded undue influence in our economy and our politics. Our governments, our businesses, and our consumers have grown dependent on their products, their technology, and their media.
U.S. firms also own huge parts of the heaviest polluting industries in Canada, like fossil fuels.
Meanwhile, U.S. tech giants are poisoning our politics. Its media sector is stealing our creative minds. Its companies are edging out local businesses. Its ultra-rich oil and gas firms keep receiving taxpayer dollars from the federal government.
The Liberals have talked a big game about their response to the US threat. But Canada is facing down the world’s largest economic and military power.
We need more than talk. We need action.
This moment calls for an east-west grid built on low-cost renewables to power Canadian businesses. It calls for historic support for and investments in Canadian small- and medium-sized enterprises. It calls for ending all federal subsidies and tax incentives for companies with a majority US ownership.
And it calls for the creation of a Federal Strategic Reserve of critical resources like potash, aluminum, steel and lumber. This protects Canadian jobs, keeps the materials in the hands of Canadian companies or trustworthy trade partners, and away from the US and its tariffs.
This is the future the Green Party is fighting for, and it’s the message we want to send to Trump.
