BEAMSVILLE – Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, welcomed the groundbreaking of a new municipal transformer station in Lincoln, today, which when complete, will add critical capacity and increase resiliency for electrical customers in Niagara West.

Niagara Peninsula Energy is investing more than $35 million to build the transformer station.

The electrical distribution project will step down power from an adjacent Hydro One Networks transmission line to support three existing transformer stations in Smithville, Vineland and Beamsville.

“This new transformer station in Lincoln will provide increased capacity to protect our electrical grid and support good-paying jobs in growing communities across Niagara West,” said MPP Oosterhoff.

“This project – supported by Niagara Peninsula Energy – ensures that local families and businesses have access to reliable energy and is an important step in supporting the competitiveness of our region.”

The transformer station will provide an additional 102 megawatts of electricity for distribution in Lincoln and West Niagara.

“The Spring Creek Transformer Station represents one of the most significant infrastructure investments in the history of Niagara Peninsula Energy and demonstrates our commitment to supporting the rapid growth taking place across Lincoln and the surrounding region,” said Igor Rusic, President and Chief Executive Officer of Niagara Peninsula Energy.

“This project will ensure we continue delivering safe, reliable and resilient electricity service to our customers while preparing our system for future residential, commercial and industrial growth.”

Managed by Canadian electrical contractor, Black & McDonald, construction of the transformer station will begin immediately and is expected to be completed in 2029.
