St. Catharines/ Niagara – As the City continues its transition to in-person work and services, St. Catharines City Council is communicating that all members of Council have received their COVID-19 vaccinations and are planning to return to in-person Council meetings in September.
“As the pandemic continues on and new variants are spreading, Council has unanimously decided to take this step and issue this statement about our personal vaccination status to show our confidence in the public health vaccination campaign and offer some reassurance that we are all doing our part to protect each other, City staff, and the public,” said Mayor Walter Sendzik.
“As a Council, we felt it was important to do this now to reinforce the importance of getting vaccinated and to assure residents that we are continuing to work together for the residents and taxpayers of St. Catharines. Like so many families, students and businesses, we are also getting ready to return to the council chambers in September and this is an important step in that process.”
The City of St. Catharines senior leadership team is working closely with public health officials and other Niagara municipalities in the consideration of a vaccination policy that keeps a focus on health and safety – which has been a priority since the start of the pandemic.
The City is closely monitoring guidelines from public health, upper levels of government, and public sector employers. Any decisions will take into account public health guidance and the Council-approved STC Framework for Recovery.
