Niagara Falls, Ontario – Niagara Parks is set to mark Canada’s 150th birthday with a full lineup of events over the July 1st weekend.
Celebrate this momentous occasion at one of the country’s most iconic destinations with two days of entertainment featuring a free performance by Hollerado on Saturday, July 1; the launch of a brand-new Niagara Parks experience: Night Lights: Journey Behind the Falls After Dark; complimentary admission to Old Fort Erie and Laura Secord Homestead on Saturday, July 1; and bonus extended Falls Fireworks displays on Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2.
Live in Niagara Parks
This year’s Coca Cola Concert Series kicks off on Canada Day weekend with free performances from local talent, as well as Canadian indie rock band Hollerado. Visitors can enjoy performances on the Illumination Stage in Queen Victoria Park on July 1 and July 2 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Hollerado will headline Saturday night’s Canada Day celebration, taking the stage at 8:00 p.m. Both evenings will culminate with a fireworks show over Niagara Falls at 10:00 p.m. All fireworks displays are subject to weather conditions.
Niagara Parks will also be serving up a specially prepared Canada 150 barbeque menu on the front lawn of Queen Victoria Place on July 1 and 2 from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The menu will highlight seasonal dishes and local providers from the Niagara Region. A variety of Niagara VQA wines, local ciders and craft beers will also be available in a licensed area near the Illumination Stage.
Night Lights: Journey Behind the Falls After Dark
Beginning on July 1 and continuing Monday to Friday, through to September 1, Night Lights: Journey Behind the Falls After Dark will allow visitors to explore the network of tunnels behind the Falls to view the illuminated cataract up close and enjoy the Falls Fireworks from an entirely new perspective – the base of the Horseshoe Falls. Guests will now be able to experience this beloved 128-year-old attraction and designated Canadian Signature Experience, after hours during the nightly Falls Illumination and Fireworks displays.
Admission can be booked as part of the Adventure Pass or purchased individually for $17.30, plus tax for an adult (13+ years) and $11.25, plus tax for children ages 6 to 12 years old. Children 5 years of age and under are free. Tickets are subject to availability.
Free Admission to Old Fort Erie and Laura Secord Homestead on Canada Day
On Canada Day, Niagara Parks Heritage will be offering free admission to Old Fort Erie and Laura Secord Homestead. Guests can learn more about the cultural heritage stories that have shaped Niagara Parks and discover how each site relates to the broader Canadian narrative that is being celebrated throughout 2017. Guided tours of Old Fort Erie and Laura Secord Homestead will be offered from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 1. Old Fort Erie will re-open later that evening to offer community activities from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in front of the Old Fort Erie Welcome Centre.
Travel Round-Trip and Save with GO Transit
Getting to Niagara Falls from Toronto just got a whole lot easier thanks in part to a new partnership between Niagara Parks and GO Transit, which launched on Friday, June 23. One round-trip ticket on the GO Niagara Seasonal Train includes GO Train service to and from Niagara, with stops at Union, Exhibition, Port Credit, Oakville, Burlington and St. Catharines stations, as well as a two-day access pass to WEGO, the hop-on, hop-off tourism bus system that travels throughout Niagara Parks, the City of Niagara Falls and to the Town of Niagara-on-the Lake. GO Trains running on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays during the summer months will feature three bike cars with room for 18 bikes on each. Guests also have the option to add on a Niagara Falls Adventure Pass and save 40% on attraction admissions. Learn more at www.niagaraparks.com/go
Canada Day Road Closures
On Saturday, July 1, the Niagara Parkway will be closed from approximately 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. between Clifton Hill and Fraser Hill, which includes a closure of Murray Street at Warren Ave. Visitors are encouraged to park at Rapidsview Parking Lot and take advantage of the WEGO bus service, which will be operating on its regular route schedule. Please note that the Niagara Parkway could close earlier by police order to ensure the safety of guests.
