A Happy Fourth Of July To Our American Friends & Neighbours

A Brief Commentary by Niagara At Large reporter/publisher Doug Draper

As much as we Canadians have every right to feel angry and to boycott products made in the U.S.A. and travel to the U.S. in response to all of the insults and threats the monster currently occupying what’s left of the White House has hurled against country, let’s remember at least two thing.

There are still many Americans who don’t buy that poison and who  want to remain friends with us.

Indeed, I have heard from fellow Canadians who have ventured across the boarder for one reason or another that Americans have repeatedly thank them for coming over and have offer their apologies to them for all of the ill-will their leader has caused between the two countries right up to this day.

So with that in mind, I want to wish our friends and neighbours in the United States a Happy Fourth of July on this 250th year of their country’s independence and I also want to share my hope with them that this ‘long day’s journey into night’ or nightmare, to put it more bluntly, that we have all been suffering through thanks to the orange-faced hellion in the Oval Office and his band of MAGA followers will soon be over.

In that spirit, I am re-posting a video that I shared here a few months ago of a large stadium full of  our American neighbhours singing ‘O Canada’ at a Buffalo Sabres hockey game. It happened when a young pop star, Buffalo-borne Cami Clune’s mike cut out during the beginning of singing our anthem and the mostly American crowd decided to take over singing it.

It was a heart-warming moment that received attention on cable news channels across Canada and the United States at the time and it serves as a reminder that, in spite of the current administration in the U.S., there is still a strong bond of friendship that crosses both sides of the Canada-U. S. Border.

Here is to our American friends and neighbours and here is to supporting the best that we can all be when we stand together on both sides of the border for peace, prosperity, freedom and democracy for everyone.
