A Brief Note To Niagara At Large Readers In The Wake Of The Recent Devastating Floods

Posted by Doug Draper, August 10th, 2026

What we don’t need right now- another severe rainstorm.

At least some of you may be wondering why there isn’t as much news and commentary on Niagara At Large that a visitor to the site would usually expect to find.

The answer can be summed up in the water that backed up into the basement of my family’s home, not just once but three or four times over the space of the last three weeks and the severe rainstorms that swept over our region.

It has left me, along with so many others, with a hell of a lot of cleanup work to do, not to mention engaging insurance agents and building contractors to help my family cover the cost for repairing the damage.

So I beg your patience, dear Niagara At Large readers, as my family and I struggle to get back to whatever may constitute ‘normal’ in the weeks and months ahead.

And if your home was flooded too, my heart goes out to you. Let’s all try to stay strong and get through this together.

Excuse me now as I get back to throwing out soddened magazines and books and mopping up our basement floor.
