Here’s To The Summer Wind – Of A More Gentle Kind – On The First Day Of August

And Enough Of Those Severe Winds And All Of he Havoc They Cause, Please!

A Summer Song Posted with a Commentary by Doug Draper

August 1st, 2026

Sixty years ago this August, when groups like The Beatles,  Rolling Stones,  Yardbirds and The Lovin’ Spoonful and singers like Donovan, Petula Clark  and Stevie Wonder had big hits on the Billboard charts, a relatively old guy from my parents younger years also broke through with a hit song called ‘Summer Wind’.

A huge Beatles fan back then, I found myself liking this song. There was something about it and the way Frank Sinatra, who by then was a legendary singer with a recording career stretching back through the 1940s and 50s, sang it that made me  feel good and made me imagine walking along a sandy beach on Cape Cod or even one of our own beaches along Lake Erie with a light breeze embracing me on a warm summer day.

Sixty years later, there is still something nice about that song so I thought I would share it with you on this first day of August, 2026. To hear it and watch a video that accompanies it, click on the screen immediately below –
