Prime Minister Mark Carney and Trump. The first face-to-face meeting is about to begin.
You can almost feel the tension building across Canada as our Prime Minister, Mark Carney, prepares to have his first meeting with Trump in the White House this Tuesday, May 6th.
And the meeting itself could be tense indeed – coming just two days after Trump went on the U.S. television news program ‘Meet The Press’ and repeated his rants about making Canada a “51st state” and about all the ways Canada has nothing to offer the United States at all.
As I’m sure many others will, this Canadian will be following the May 6th meeting between Trump and Carney closely.
And in my case, I will be following it with almost zero expectations that anything positive will be accomplished on the trade war front with a malignant narcissist who appears to need it to shower more attention on himself and to take attention away from everything else he is doing to deconstruct the democratic institutions in his country and gouge ordinary Americans in the pocketbook.

Trump treated the world to a shocking dislplay when he verbally slapped Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky out during a visit to the White House this past February
The one strong fear I have in the countdown to this first face-to- face encounter at the White House is that Trump will use that part of it where the media is allowed in to ask a few questions to play the bully and try to insult and humiliate our Prime Minister the way he did during his meeting with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky this past February.
If Trump does that, I hope Prime Minister Carney, keeps his cool as he gets up from his chair and leave the White House with Trump still there. performing his vaudeville act from hell that his cult followers seem to cherish so much.
Beyond that, I would suggest that as Carney leaves his car to go into the White House meeting, it might be a good idea to keep it running.
Let Trump blather on about not needing anything from Canada. Our prime minister can get back to the job of forging strong friendships and trade relationships with Europe, Australia and other countries so we don’t need anything from Trump’ America any more.
The sooner Canada can tell Trump ‘We don’t need you’, the better!
Meanwhile, as individual Canadians, let’s continue to show our strength against all of the threats and hostility from across the border by buying as many products produced in our country in other friendly countries around the world, and by boycotting products from and trips to the U.S.A.

A sight that would seem unthinkable before Trump took office again this past January. Hardly a single car or truck crossing the border into the United States at the Peace Bridge this past Saturday (May 3rd) morning, at a time of the week when usually it would be packed.
