Ontario’s Ford Supporters Are Getting the kind of Cutting And Gutting they Voted For and Deserve

Are They Enjoying A Beer For A Buck Too? Chug-A-Lug Another Brewski on Premier Doug!

A Status Report from Ontario’s NDP and Official Opposition Party

Doug Ford’s first 100 days: by the numbers

“From forcing a sex-ed curriculum written more than 20 years ago back into the classroom, to meddling in the Toronto municipal elections that were already underway, to appointing rich and powerful supporters to patronage jobs that come with big pay cheques, Ford has shown that he’s driven by backroom deals, his need for revenge against old political enemies,  and doing favours for friends.”

Ontario’s New Democatic Party P says Doug Ford’s first 100 days in office can only be measured by the people impacted by his choices.

“Ask the students, teachers and educators who were already in drafty schools with lead in the drinking fountains,” said NDP Deputy Leader Sara Singh. “Doug Ford cancelled $100 million that was supposed to pay for school repairs, so instead of being fixed, those schools are going to go from bad to worse.

“Ask all those waiting for mental health care how they feel about Ford’s $330-million cut to mental health funding, which is only making painfully long waits longer.

“And ask low-income Ontarians, how they feel after Ford slashed the planned 2018 social assistance rate increases and cancelled the basic income pilot – despite repeatedly making promises not to.”

From forcing a sex-ed curriculum written more than 20 years ago back into the classroom, to meddling in the Toronto municipal elections that were already underway, to appointing rich and powerful supporters to patronage jobs that come with big pay cheques, Ford has shown that he’s driven by backroom deals, his need for revenge against old political enemies, and doing favours for friends.

Here’s a look at Ford’s first 100 days by the numbers:

  • 1,700,000: Number of people who will lose about $2,000 a year because Ford cancelled a minimum wage increase they were counting on $100,000,000: Amount that Ford cut from school repair funds$100,000,000: Amount Ford took away when he cancelled a natural gas expansion fund for the North $335,000,000: Amount that Ford cut from annual mental health care funding
  • 2: Pieces of legislation passed
  • 0: Opportunities for public comment on those pieces of legislation
  • 8: Number of pricey lawsuits already pending against the Ford government
  • 1.21/litre: Gasoline prices in the GTA when Doug Ford became PC Leader
  • 1.26/litre: Gasoline prices in the GTA today
  • 14%: decrease in PC Party support since Doug Ford became its leader

A Brief Footnote from Niagara At Large reporter and publisher – Most of you are  familiar with the old saying; “If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain.”

Well, here at Niagara At Large, we are re-wording that saying a little. Are new line is; “If you voted for Doug Ford, you have no right to complain.”

We will have more to say about why we feel that way in commentary we will be posting here in the days ahead.

In the meantime, if you voted for Ford because you were foolish enough to assume that he would pub “more money back in your pocket” by cutting someone else’s services or assistance programs, then he turns around and cuts yours (which he surely will, if he hasn’t already, unless you are wealthy, don’t come complaining to us.

We are saving our sympathy for people who were smart enough not to vote for Ford.

  1. IN MY OPINION …..THESE HARPER/HARRIS STYLE CONSERVATIVES will do anything and everything to win “CONTROL” and that Everything includes……LIES, ELIMINATION of REGULATIONS, VOIDING THE CONSTITUTION, ALIGNING THEMSELVES WITH INSTITUTIONS like THE CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE, THE FRASER INSTITUTE and Foreign FAR RIGHT WING ENTITIES that are working to ASSIMILATE ONTARIO into the REPUBLICAN HOUSE of CARDS…RIGHT NOW THIS is HAPPENING ON THE LOCAL ELECTION SCENE where MONEY, LIES and ELECTRONIC MESSAGING SEEMS to be FLOWING into ELEMENTS TO CONFUSED and MISGUIDE THE PUBLIC……. ALSO The massive “BLANKING” of the AREA with Costly Signs is a warning of things to come..
Beware of the false sincerity in words that in the future will come back to haunt you when the TRUTH of those very words reveal a conspiracy of Conservative Control.

  2. The local politicians are equally bad, just on a lesser scale. 90% of them need to be voted out….municipal and regional governments. Corruption, nepotism and personal greed are their agendas.

GET OUT AND VOTE!!!! ….but before you do, learn who is running. Go to candidates meetings. Call them personally with your complaints and concerns. Ask them direct questions when they plop on your doorstep and take only direct answers. Wrong answer or no answer and they’re off the list. When they do answer, think about how it will affect you and others. The proliferation of signs I see for complete creeps and idiots, useless recipients of our tax dollars and crooked thugs infuriates me. Do these people actually know who they are supporting or just recognize a name?

In Fort Erie, and I’m sure elsewhere, people see a familiar name and automatically put their check beside it not even knowing their history or their record often because the politician’s grandpa bought their grandpa a beer in 1935. Great way to run a government. Buck a beer. (After 40 years in an ER smelling regurgitated beer, there is no allure for me in beer. Cheesecake perhaps.)

The far right, tribal mentality fearful of anything new, progressive and different is raising its ugly head from the US (Trump) to Brazil to Turkey to the UK (Brexit) to….ONTARIO. Look at the racist, bigot and misogynist currently leading in the Brazilian election (he publicly, to her face, threatened to slap a female opponent and said she wasn’t worth raping!).
Some moderate conservative views are fine but going backward instead of forward, being hateful of anyone who disagrees, denying obvious climate change, telling young people babies come from cabbage patches, that people don’t deserve a living wage, anyone with a different skin colour, sexual orientation, race or religion are all evil and people who, for no fault of their own are down and out, are leeches…. is tribalism at its worst. No man, woman, child or country is an island.
The world is now small and totally interdependent. Dirty air and water doesn’t stop at the borders.

Out with the old. In with the new. A clean slate.
VOTE, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE …or shut up and don’t complain.
