Hammering Harper With Questions On Leadership And ‘Old Stock’ Canadians

Commentary from Gary Screaton Page

I never thought I would see the day when Stephen Harper would admit that the Conservative Party does not have what it takes to run an election. So why do we think that if his party is re-elected they will run the country any better than they have run their campaign?

Is Stephan HJarper an 'old stock' Canadian?

Is Stephan HJarper an ‘old stock’ Canadian?

If, you don’t think Harper has admitted his party doesn’t have the right stuff consider that he recently brought in Lynton Crosby, an Australian, to take charge of the campaign. Is doing so not an admission that no one in his party, at least in Mr. Harper’s mind, has what it takes to keep the election campaign on track?

So how does Mr. Harper expect he will do better picking his next cabinet, if Canadians are daft enough to re-elect his party to lead the country again? Surely, running a campaign is easier than running a nation as diverse as Canada!

And what did Harper mean by “Old Stock Canadians”? Did he mean non-refugees like Conrad Black, a convicted felon in the United State that his government allowed into Canada? Did he mean the Conrad Black, the white guy who gave up his Canadian citizenship while tens of thousands of not-so-white others are dying for a chance at a life in this country?

Did he mean the wealthy Conrad Black, with wealthy, powerful friends who appear also to be of similar “old stock?”

Most certainly Harper didn’t mean the not so “old stock” refugee seekers his Conservatives has been loath to admit into Canada and would continue to deny access if so much public pressure had not been brought to bear on his to change course.

Ah but then money does talk, doesn’t it – especially that “old stock” Canadian money.

  1. People should read the definition of “old stock Canadians” before they lend their support to Harper for another term.

    Where Was Justin Trudeau?
We are presently worse off now in Canada than we were when the Harper Government took control. Clearly, two-thirds of Canadians do not want his government in power for yet another term. Yet, if we are not diligent, do not get out and vote, or vote incorrectly, Harper will run Canada for another four years.
So, is Mr. Trudeau a good alternative? Justin Trudeau did not announce his party’s fiscal plan. It was others, primarily Ralph Goodall and John McCallum: two members of the “Old Guard Chretien Liberals”. What did they plan for Canada? Under the Liberals, we will get more spending, more deficits, and greater Canadian debt. Yet, we are already in debt to the tune of over $17,164.65 per person! Imagine waking up with a debt collector at your door asking you to cough up your share of the nation’s debt! Sadly, Trudeau would have it go higher. Ah, how naive is youthful reasoning! Sounds like the Greek situation will be Canadian situation if Justin has his way. “What? Are we in debt? Just max the credit card to cover the expense. We can always make the minimum payments.”
Ah, but where was Mr. Trudeau when the “Old Boys” spoke for him? Any mature, responsible leader would have been front and centre with such an important announcement at a press conference! Maybe the “old boys” of the Chretien days do get it. “Justin is just not ready!” so keep him at home “resting” and away from the press on this one.
Additionally, consider the most recent comments by Jean Chretien. He was standing at a Liberal podium and telling Canadians how we ought to be happy Vladimir Putin is bombing in support of the Assad regime in Syria. Yet, Assad is killing more of his people than the rebels are. Does Jean Chretien speak for the Liberals? I thought Justin was the Leader! Mr. Trudeau was not present for this announcement either.

Therefore, that leaves Tom Mulcair. I have as often as possible, worked for the person whom I thought was the best candidate in my riding regardless of their party affiliation. Why? I trusted them. I do not trust the Harper Government. They seem bent on taking away our human rights and keeping non-whites out of the country as much as possible. Why do desperate, Assyrian refugees find a keep out sign under Harper while Conrad Black – who is very white and a convicted felon, who renounced his Canadian citizenship – are welcomed in! Black gave up his Canadian citizenship. Refugees are begging for a chance to have it! Just consider how Harper wants to revoke citizenship for a select few, even including one born and raised in Canada!

Trudeau appears to be too well managed by the “Old Boys” to be leading the country in a new direction. He is just not ready to lead a country like Canada. At least Harper got that one right! On the other hand, Harper is mean and it appears he maybe racist That leaves Mulcair and the NDP as the only serious contender in the race. I will put my vote there this year. Anything is better than the Harper alternative or the well-managed Trudeau. At least Mulcair commits to keeping the country’s books in order! If he does not, he will not last either. At least the NDP and Mulcair have earned a shot. God knows Canada needs a change of direction.

  3. Building infra- structure is by no means a waste of money, FDR back in the dirty 1930s knew that, he spent money on roads, sewers and water, also the massive Tennessee Power project that opened up the South and Mid West. this is money that gets Canada up and running, Justin understands the value of building for the future, Harper and his super rich friends are just holding onto the money and letting it all rot in their bank vaults.!!!
