Joint Statement on Measles from Niagara, Ontario’s Regional Government and the Niagara Catholic School Board

Dr. Jaeger also noted that she is awaiting information from provincial health officers on whether there is any link with the new cases in Niagara and a religious conference for youth, held in Toronto, in recent weeks

Anyone, who for screwball libertarian or right-wing religious reasons will not allow their children to receive a measles vaccine, should do the rest of the community a favour and keep their children out of our public schools, out of shopping malls and anywhere else where their children could potentially spread a disease that is potentially fatal.)

February 16th, 2015 – Niagara Catholic District School Board and Niagara Region Public Health can confirm individuals with measles have had contact within the school communities of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Elementary School and Saint Michael Catholic High School.
While both schools have a very high vaccination rate, Public Health continued to be in contact with the families of students over this past weekend who have not been adequately vaccinated.
According to the Immunization of School Pupils Act, students who have not completed the required immunization schedule for, in this case, measles, have been excluded from school until they meet the requirements to return. Both schools are working with families of excluded students to provide school work during the period of exclusion.
Niagara Catholic is committed to the health, wellness and safety of our 24,000 students and 3,000 staff. On the advice of, and in consultation and co-operation with Niagara Region’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Valerie Jaeger, Director of Education John Crocco has put several steps into place to keep Niagara Catholic parents and staff informed during this outbreak.
Public Health has provided two fact sheets for distribution – one for families of students in school, the other for staff in our schools – which answer questions about and provides information on vaccinations.
The letter to parents has been posted on the Board website, and links are being posted on each individual school websites, so parents received this information over the weekend. Copies of the letter will be sent home with students throughout the system on Tuesday, February 17, 2015.
The information to all staff was sent via e-mail on Sunday by the Director.
On Sunday, February 15, 2015, the Principals of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Elementary School and Saint Michael Catholic High School sent voicemail messages to all families in their school communities to inform them that an individual with a confirmed case of measles has been in the school community. They have advised parents/guardians to call Public Health if their child has not been adequately vaccinated or exhibits symptoms.

I’ve been arguing this topic online on several blogs. People have NO CLUE how the immune system works & seek out web sites to coincide with their ideology. You can always find what you seek. The sites they read are put out there by quacks. A few studies even involve MDs but many have lost their licenses, like the debunked Wakefield. Blind studies comparing those who get real vaccines vs placebos show almost IDENTICAL results as far as side effects which means any connection to vaccines is doubtful if not ridiculous. All suspected reactions to vaccines must be reported & analyzed by independent scientists with NO connection to pharmacologic companies.
Some of these antivaxx clowns claim they do no harm to those vaccinated so what’s the problem? The problem is that science admits a SMALL percentage of recipients do not receive complete immunity & some cannot be vaccinated due to immune deficiencies, chemo or age. THAT is why they are walking disease vectors for others, not to mention the threat to themselves. They also think they survived measles so it’s not harmful. Wrong. Many are too young to remember the terrible effects of polio, smallpox & even MEASLES like blindness, deafness, pneumonia, brain damage from encephalitis & even death. With the right to refuse vaccines goes responsibility. Quarantine them with a big sign on their door.
The old mercury, aluminum, fetal tissue (from aborted fetuses, another claim) & terrible “toxins” they claim to be in vaccines are either miniscule or no longer present at all.
One woman argued that doctors knew what flu vaccines to produce because “those straight clouds in the sky aren’t natural but man made & seeded with viruses by ‘big pharma’.” That is the mentality of some of these folks. They should remember to reject “big pharma” if they get an infection. Lose that leg rather than take those awful drugs. Stop their heart meds. The results from vaccines are proven.
Worldwide measles still kills thousands yearly. The CDC quotes 145,700 in 2013….400 daily….16 per hour. These people are gambling & unfortunately it is with their children & others, not themselves. (Most of the parents are of an age where they were vaccinated.) We all know gamblers seldom win.
I suggest viewing a You Tube of the Australian 60 Minutes featuring anti vaxxer Viera Schiebner. She passes off her PhD (in geology) as a “doctor” & has made myriad false claims. The video shows the agony of babies dying with whooping cough, the grief of the families & the arrogance of this evil woman who finally walks out on the interview when confronted. The woman should be jailed!
