The Antidote To Climate Despair Is ACTION!

“A s our air becomes unbreathable, Prime Minister Carney boasts about the “lasting benefits” of expanding fossil fuel production and claims that previous climate targets are “too expensive” to meet while allocating billions of public dollars for pipelines.”

Earlier this week, I woke up in Toronto to a red sun, smoky skies and a burning at the back of my throat.

As I was walking my son to camp, wearing facemasks we dug out of the drawer, he said to me “I just wish we had the sky back”.

It is heartbreaking to explain the climate catastrophe to our kids.

Our hearts and solidarity are with the people of Collins, Namaygoosisagagun First Nation which has been burned beyond recognition with people narrowly escaping by boat. Armstrong, Whitesand First Nation, and many others are now being evacuated as well.  Too many of our neighbours are struggling to breathe.

Yet as our air becomes unbreathable, Prime Minister Carney boasts about the “lasting benefits” of expanding fossil fuel production and claims that previous climate targets are “too expensive” to meet while allocating billions of public dollars for pipelines.

In these moments, it can be easy to fall into despair. As an organizer I  know that the antidote to despair is action.  Will you sign and share this petition to support a Green New Deal for Canada?

Let’s show this government that immediate and meaningful climate action is non-negotiable. [ https://act.ndp.ca/go/15743?t=1002&akid=15060%2E1357103%2E01fEt– ]

Add your name We can’t let this government’s agenda come to pass. If we do, billions in public dollars will be spent on pipelines, AI data centres will suck up the land, water, and funding we desperately need for public services, and we’ll have to keep explaining to our kids that the sky isn’t getting better anytime soon.

We as Canadians need to demand this government enact a climate plan that pushes against privatization and AI data centres – one that envisions a future we’re excited to share with the next generation. A future that includes:

  • * A massive expansion of our renewable resource sector
  • * Creating a million good jobs by building an east-west clean power  grid, electric buses, and heat pumps for every home
  • * Defending Indigenous rights and environmental protections
  • * Investing in wildfire response and prevention

These are the solutions to climate catastrophe – solidarity and    collective action are the solutions to climate despair. Add your name for a Canadian Green New Deal and share widely – we need to protect the people and places we love as soon as possible.[ ndp.ca/green-new-deal-now ]ndp.ca/green-new-deal-now.
