NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario, February 3rd, 2014 – Andrea Horwath, Leader of Ontario’s New Democrats, was joined by New Democrat MPPs from across Ontario to meet with job creators in Niagara region, and to emphasize the clear choice facing voters in the coming by-election for a new MPP for Niagara Falls Riding. Horwath and members of her caucus visited Spencer ARL Niagara, while other caucus members toured the Wine Visitor and Education Centre.“In this election voters have a clear choice: they can elect a Hudak Conservative who will stand on the sidelines with plans to drive down wages and deregulate hydro rates, or they can send a jobs champion who will work with local businesses to create jobs in Niagara Falls, Fort Erie and Niagara-on-the-Lake,” said Horwath. “My team and I are here to back Wayne Gates and to listen to local job creators about how we can grow Niagara’s economy and help put people to work.”

Horwath says job creation is a top issue in this riding. Horwath says New Democrats have put a number of concrete, proven job-creation tools on the table, such as a Job Creation Tax Credit, getting hydro rates under control through capping hydro CEO salaries and ending expensive private power deals, and cutting taxes for small businesses.

“Across the riding of Niagara Falls, people are looking for government to make jobs a priority. Instead they see shortsighted policies that send hydro rates through the roof or kill the slots-at-racetrack partnership that sustained jobs in Fort Erie,” said Horwath. “Everywhere I go from Fort Erie to Niagara-on-the-Lake to Niagara Falls people are telling me that they want to see jobs created and protected. New Democrats have the best plan to put people to work with targeted tax credits,” said Gates. “It’s simple: hire a local worker, get a tax credit.  It works and it will put people to work right here at home in Niagara.”

If the Cons are elected there will be NO decent paying jobs just minimum wage or even below for Hudak would actually lower the Minimum to a point where everyone except he and his goons would be losing their homes and find our selves visiting what would be left of food banks…Under a Conservative government the only thing that will rise is Crime and home invasion will reach moon like proportions.
I had my share of being a victim of crime thus I feel certain it will only increase. Scared? Your damn right I am. I remember Harris and Hudak and I blame them for the beginning of positioning Ontario as a have NOT province

  4. Donna…. couldn’t have said it better!
Let’s look at what Andrea is saying here and dissect it:
    1) Employment Tax Credit – Who exactly does she think pays for this? ANDREA….. the answer: JOHN DOE TAX PAYER and Businesses that are not eligible, because we all know there will be restrictions! All you are doing is creating a business subsidy/welfare policy that can not be sustained and is therefore artificial! RECALL RAE DAYS??? I DO! SAME THING DIFFERENT PACKAGE. DO YOU PLAN TO LEAVE THIS PLAN, IF THAT’S WHAT YOU WANT TO CALL IT, IN PLACE INDEFINATELY?
    2) Electricity – Wasn’t it your government Andrea that allowed McSquinty et company to introduce a ridiculously expensive Green Energy debacle that has increased electricity rates by over 50% in the last 4 years? Yeah I bet business loved that!
    3) Fort Erie – Again. As Donna put it succinctly, it was you and your ULTRA LEFT comrades that again allowed McSquinty et al to wreak havoc on that great community!

These are ideas that will increase the fortunes of this province if you have a spine:
    1) Increase the stability in this province so that businesses who move here know what they can expect from the Government for the foreseeable future. Companies don’t like moving to jurisdictions that are close to bankruptcy because they know what will happen. They will be expected to foot the bill. It’s that SIMPLE!!!!! How do you do this…. read on!

    A) Reduce the cost of government (teachers, police, fire, social, government workers) Public Executives AND front line staff alike so that taxes on businesses and citizens alike can be reduced to a sustainable level. We live in a sleepy little region where the chief of nrp makes twice as much as the chief of police in NEW YORK CITY! Is that sustainable? This disconnect from reality is the TIP of the iceberg and something that is consistent across all public employee sectors! The SUNSHINE list just keeps on growing doesn’t it! HAVE I LOST YOU YET? Well if people are paying less taxes they have more money to spend. Same is true with business. Economics 101! Oh but I forgot, it was self-serving/vote-buying political legislation that resulted in these runaway costs. Do YOU have the spine to take on this task?
Reduce the cost to live and to operate a business. Decrease the taxes attached to electricity and transportation/heating fuels. The fact that these essential resources are taxed in the first place and why they are tied to GLOBAL market rates considering we are a NET producer is beyond me! ADD TO THIS! The fact that the province and federal government make out like bandits when the prices of these commodities go through the roof due to global market conditions is additionally reprehensible. The only reason Flaherty is going to balance any budget is because fuels are going through the roof and so are the taxes earned on them. The same is true for the province. How much artificial income has been stolen from us, the taxpayer, as a result of skyrocketing fuel costs?

ONCE YOU START TALKING ABOUT IMPLEMENTING THESE TYPES OF SOLUTIONS INSTEAD OF YOUR BANDAID VOTE BUYING SOLUTIONS, I WILL LISTEN! HOWEVER I WILL NOT HOLD MY BREATH!
I AM JUST HOPEFUL THE REST OF THE GOOD CITIZENS OF THIS REGION WILL SEE YOU AND YOUR PARTY FOR WHAT IT IS! A TAX AND SPEND PARTY DESIGNED TO INCREASE THE POSITION OF THE UNIONIST MOVEMENT IN THIS PROVINCE TO THE DETRIMENT OF US ALL!
I welcome any response to any of that which is mentioned above.
    Just sayin,……
