The new Ontario government is awarding the building of a 96-bed long-term care home in Welland to Jarlette Health Services.

The new long-term care home, which will be built with the support of the government, will help more seniors receive care close to their families and in their community. The addition of 96 beds  will also free up hospital beds and shorten emergency room wait times.

Ensuring the right care, at the right time, in the right place supports the Ontario government’s Action Plan for Health Care and is part of The Way Forward in building a strong economy and a fair society for the benefit of all.

QUOTES

“Welland area seniors and their families want to know that high quality long-term care is available to them if they need it. The new long-term care home in Welland is another step towards providing more seniors with access to that care and a higher quality of life in a new, home-like environment.

– Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care

“The addition of these new long-term care beds will enrich the Welland community and make life easier for residents. The opportunity to remain within the community they know and be close to friends and family will certainly help maintain the quality of life of these residents.”

– Kim Craitor, MPP for Niagara Falls

QUICK FACTS

  • Construction of the new long-term care home in Welland is expected to be completed in mid-2016.

  1. This certainly looks like the Liberal Government is trying to do a triage on their own sick poll numbers, a few crumbs for the people who actually get out there and vote, senior citizens. The people who are normally out of sight and out of mind when it comes to Government priorities >

  2. I think the priority should be keeping people out of nursing homes, if they can. People for the most part want to live and die at home and with their families around them. I don’t trust a lot of the nursing homes, as even the younger ones I knew that went to those places went there to die.
