From Doug Draper
In a piece I posted on this site this August 11, promoting a campaign by the Niagara ‘Y’’ to raise funds for services for the homeless, I made the embarrassing mistake of attributing this worthy campaign to the YMCA rather than the YWCA Niagara Region, which is, in fact, organizing it.
I could say that as a ‘guy’, I grew up with the YMCA, but that is no excuse for missing the fact that it is the YWC A that is responsible for this important event called ‘No Fixed Address’, which you can find out more about by clicking on www.NFANiagara.com . So I apologize to Elisabeth Zimmermann, executive director of YWCA Niagara, for keying the ‘M’ in there between ‘Y” and ‘CA’, and I wish, as I have in the main article which has been corrected, to urge everyone who can in this region to support this important fund-raising campaign.
I trust that Elisabeth Zimmerman and her Y will forgive me for my mistake, although I have already had one long-reader of Niagara At Large say they are finished with this site. It is too bad that this individual could not look beyond the mistake and recognize the possibility that Niagara At Large was attempting, for no pecuniary gain here, to promote something for the larger community
Doug,
There always those who jump to criticize, but one can only do one’s best, and an apology should be all that is needed to set things right. The YWCA has a long history of helping those who need a hand up in St. Catharines, and now over the last few years , further afield. Perhaps one should look at your mistake and apology as even more publicity for their very good works!

Thanks always Gracia, for your kind words and support. And this great organization certainly deserves all of our support. That is what this should be about. NAL publisher Doug Draper

Good grief, I accidentally interchange the YW and WM often. Has this long-time reader never made a mistake?

Try as I might to make my commments grammatically correct, and check things over as I write, more often than not, once it is in print, I find the mistake. And grimace. This has happened over a long time of writing this and that, and my flawed attempts have appeared in, of all places, NAL! (smile here).
Any adult would be forgiving of these mistakes, especially when one is writing under pressure.
I don’t recall seeing or reading about the ‘Y’s worthy cause in any other local newsoutlet. Oh, that’s right, I forgot. There is nothing local anymore about much of any of the Niagara area newspapers. (Frown here).
‘To err is human; to forgive divine.’ (Not by William Shakespeare) Maybe your long-time reader might like to apologize to you? Just a suggestion.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for providing much needed publicity to our event “No Fixed Address” and for making the distinction between our two organizations. We at the YWCA Niagara Region are very much looking forward to our event as a way to raise much needed funds to help continue the services that we provide to homeless women and their families in the community of Niagara. We are also looking forward to the opportunity to help raise awareness about the number of families that are struggling in this great community and whose housing is often precarious.
Thanks again for your support!
Elisabeth Zimmermann
