Meeting this Monday, August 31 at 6:00 in the 2nd Alliance room of the Unitarian Universalist Church, Ferry and Elmwood.

Agenda:  RISE UP FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE campaign

The Sierra Club Niagara Group, the Interfaith Climate Justice Community and many other groups have agreed to run a four month campaign leading up to the UN Paris Climate Talks at the end of 2015.

We are still completing the planning but have agreed to hold a CLIMATE JUSTICE rally in Niagara Square on Thursday, September 24, the day that Pope Francis will be speaking to the U.S. Congress.

If this is going to be a successful event and if we are going to mobilization Western New York elected officials, civic leaders, institutions and citizens to push the president to lead on a binding emission reduction to address climate change, we need to work together according to each of our talents.

A brief afterword from Niagara At Large publisher Doug Draper – It is heartening to see the growing interest of citizens in the Buffalo, New York area to press their political leaders for real action on climate change and developing greener forms of energy.

I know that citizens on the Ontario side of the border have attended this Sierra Club Niagara Group’s meetings and rallies in the past because they know that we are not going to get any real action in Canada until the United States does it first because there isn’t much left in the way of progressive leadership in Canada. It is mostly climate deniers running the asylum here and too many Canadians don’t seem to mind.
