When it comes to friends of the earth, few, in this veteran environment writer’s view, have been truer in her almost 90 years and counting than Jane Goodall.

Jane Goodall engaged in conservation with one of her friends in the forest.

Goodall, who earned world-wide recognition as one of the world’s foremost experts on chimpanzee before and how it relates to humans and other living beings in the world around us, continues to speak out passionately for all of us to do what we can to fight climate change and protect the life-sustaining resources of our plant for present and future generations.

This past January 21st, 2024, Jane Goodall was interviewed by CNN television host and political commentator Fareed Zakaria. It was an interview I believe  everyone should see and that should be mandatory viewing in our schools and in every town and city council and provincial/state and federal legislature  on this  continent.

If you missed it, I am including a link for the interview that  you can click on a few paragraphs down.

But just before you watch it, as I hope you do, here are are just a few of the words Jane Goodall shared with those who tuned in –

“It is so desperately important that we save the natural world. We are destroying it so fast. We are destroying the forests and the oceans. …. “

“Nature,” Goodall continued, “is the future of our children and grandchildren. It is the future of life as we know it on planet Earth.”

She went on with an appeal to all of us to make sure we vote people into political office who truly care about doing what they can at every level of government to protect and preserve the life-giving forces of this planet of ours.

“Let’s urge everyone to vote for those people who do care about the future and who do care about mitigating climate change,” she said, “because that is the long term. We seem to forget that the decisions we make today will affect the future. We think of the here and now.”
