Paving more paradise, even in a time of climate crisis
This past Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, a bombshell report from Ontario’s Auditor General confirmed what we’ve known all along about the Ford government’s Greenbelt giveaway.
Our main takeaway?
Since day one, this government has favoured friends and insiders at the expense of everyday Ontarians.
Here’s just some of what the Auditor General dug up:
Of the 7,400 acres being removed from the Greenbelt, 92 percent is going to JUST THREE DEVELOPERS – who stand to make BILLIONS on land that was supposed to be protected in perpetuity.
$8.3 billion, to be precise.
And while the rich are getting richer, the rest of us are losing.
We’re losing thousands of acres of prime farmland, wetlands and woodlands. We’re losing out on the chance at an affordable future – where basic necessities like homes and food aren’t out of reach.
Tell Doug Ford: Hands off the Greenbelt!
Ontarians are smart – they can see that Ford’s story just isn’t adding up.
He’s demonstrated a total lack of care for the people of Ontario – a willingness to break all the rules when the highest bidder comes calling, leaving the rest of us to foot the bill.
Ontario Greens are demanding better.
We have a plan to build a province where everyone has a great place to live – in an affordable, connected community to live, work and play.
We want to make sustainable decisions that protect the people and places we love – now and in the future.
And we want a government that works for the people it represents, instead of trying to deceive them.
Ontario Greens are calling on the Ford government to own up to their mistakes by accepting the Auditor General’s recommendation to re-evaluate their Greenbelt giveaway.
