Hundreds of people came together for a meaningful hike that raised awareness and funds to support compassionate hospice palliative care in Niagara. “It’s such a special day to honour those who are living the final phase of life and to remember those who have passed due to a life-limiting illness.” says Carol Nagy, Executive Director of Hospice Niagara.

The hike, a scenic 5 kilometre walk started at Lakeside Park and toured through the beautiful Jaycee Gardens Park to the halfway point at Hospice Niagara – The Stabler Centre at 403 Ontario Street, and back again. The afternoon featured local musical performances by SisterLune and Roadshow, a BBQ, prizes and a visit from the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dogs.

“The need for palliative care in Niagara is growing and will continue to grow as the population ages.” adds Carol.

This is Hospice Niagara’s second largest fundraising event. Preliminary results indicate that this year’s hike raised in excess of $93,000, which will support Hospice Niagara’s programs and services for families across the Niagara Region.

Services include providing palliative care in client’s homes, working in partnership with family physicians, visiting nurses and their primary care providers, as well as, the residential hospice – The Stabler Centre, in St. Catharines.
