Ontario’s Conservative Party Just Won’t Let The Shut-Down Of The Province’s Legislature Go

A Submission from the Office of Ontario Conservative Party leader Tim Hudak

(A Brief Foreward by Niagara At Large – Whether you are an Ontario Conservative Party supporter or not, you may wish to sign the petition below to get the provincial legislature back to work.

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty’s move to prorogue, as in completely shut down the provincial legislature for possibly months to come is outrageous given the many issues and challenges this province faces today.

McGuinty had the nerve to say this October 24 that he called the legislature to a halt because in his view, it was getting out of control. Well maybe, just maybe, it was getting out of control because of the rolling thunder of questions being asked of him and his caucus around where gas-fired power plants should be located and other controversies. Why does that give any one person in Ontario, up to and including a premier, the right to close down the halls of democratic debate?)

Get Back To Work, Liberals

Hudak Launches Online Petition Demanding Recall of Legislature

Beamsville – Niagara West – Glanbrook MPP Tim Hudak and the Ontario PC Caucus launched an online petition demanding that Premier Dalton McGuinty bring the Legislative Assembly of Ontario back to work immediately.

This image, which seems so in there given McGuinty’s slamming the doors on Ontario’s legislature for possibly months to come, has been burning up the internet in recent days.

“We’re facing a made-in-Ontario jobs and debt crisis.  By shutting down the House, the Premier is blocking work that would kick-start the economy and encourage job creation,” Hudak said.  “We’ve launched this petition to send a message to the Premier and Ontario Liberals that we owe it to Ontarians to continue to work, to focus on jobs and reining in government spending, during this crucial point in our history.”

Over 100 pieces of legislation, as well as the investigative work being done by legislative committees investigating the scandals at ORNGE air ambulance and the cancellations of gas plants in Mississauga and Oakville, died suddenly when the Premier prorogued the Legislature last week. To effectively shut down the Legislature until well into 2013 also effectively killed the contempt motion against the Minister of Energy for failing to turn over all relevant documents related to the politically motivated cancellation of the gas plants which is expected to cost Ontario taxpayers upwards of $1 billion.

“Close to 600,000 men and women, many here in West Niagara, woke up this morning with no job to go, yet the Premier, when confronted with tough times, decided to simply close the doors and turn out the lights,” Hudak said.

“I have experience at the Cabinet table balancing books and a bold plan to create jobs.  But the Legislature needs to be sitting to put our jobs plan in action.  I stand ready to do my part,” added Hudak.

ONTARIO PC PARTY LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN TO PRESS LIBERALS TO RE-OPEN THE LEGISLATURE

The Ontario PC Party launched two new radio ads today in a campaign to pressure the Liberals to put Ontario’s interests in front of their Party’s interests.

“While 600,000 Ontarians woke up today without jobs and the prospect of a $30 billion deficit, the scandal-plagued Liberals have put the government on autopilot with the doors shut and the lights off leaving their reckless spending to go unchecked with no plan to kick-start private sector job creation,” said Thornhill MPP Peter Shurman. “Instead of shutting down the House so they can focus on picking a new Liberal leader, they should immediately recall the Legislature so we can take urgent action to deal with the jobs crisis.”

“The Liberals are turning their backs on the concerns and priorities of Ontarians, but Tim Hudak and the Ontario PCs are offering hope with bold new ideas and a plan for prosperity,” said Shurman. “The Liberals are hiding from accountability and have no ideas on how to fix their mess, but the Ontario PC Party is ready to do our part.”

The two new ads entitled Government on Auto-pilot and Tim Hudak’s Plan can be downloaded at http://www.ontariopc.com/ads/ and will be airing in markets across Ontario.

  1. Though I have no liking or respect for Hudak and his gang of Hudakers, I do ruefully say they are right……I for the life of me cannot understand how the hell McGuinty and or Harper can “JUST SHUT THE PLACES DOWN.” Where in our Charter does it give them the right to do so???

  2. The fact that the Corporate media is all too silent is a testimony to its lack of will and honesty and shows just how far aligned it is when it completely ignores the rights of the people by this affront.

  3. … as a former Ontarian I have to say I’m curious to know if Hudak ever said anything about Stephen Harper shutting down the federal parliament when it was obvious he was going to lose his strangle hold on parliament? I didin’t see anything to that effect – but maybe I missed it …
