A Brief Foreword by Niagara At Large reporter/publisher Doug Draper – When news was released that the RCMP would investigate charges that senior staff in the Ontario Government of Doug Ford were working with Ford-friendly developers to pave over parcels of our precious Greenbelt lands, there were many at the time who seemed excited to hear this. But I must admit that this journalist was not one of them.
After many years of following federal, provincial and municipal police, I have almost completely lost confidence in any of them getting to the bottom of white collar crime, especially where suspects in government are working in collusion with private business interests.
So here we are, more than 1,000 days in and still no charges slapped on anyone allegedly involved in the Greenbelt scandal. Will there ever be? The RCMP may yet surprize me, but I would not hold my breath.
QUEEN’S PARK — Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition Ontario NDP, is marking over a thousand days of Doug Ford being under RCMP criminal investigation for the Greenbelt scandal.
“This is Doug Ford’s legacy,” said Stiles. “Not making groceries cheaper, not fixing our health care; but scandals, corruption, and criminal investigations.

“The worst part is he’s learned nothing. Doug Ford’s fear of transparency is so deep that he changed Freedom of Information laws — the same ones that helped unearth the Greenbelt scandal — to cover up his phone records, and whatever else he’s hiding.”
The investigation was launched in October 2023 following scathing reports from independent officers of the legislature, investigations from the media, and revelations from the Ontario NDP.
“I have full confidence in the RCMP to find the truth, but zero confidence in Doug Ford to tell the truth. Ontarians need to know if they can trust him. If there’s nothing to hide, why does Doug Ford keep jumping through hoops to hide things?”
