Stop Premier Doug Ford’s  $16-billion Environmental Wrecking Ball

A Call-Out to All of Us from the Green Party of Ontario

Posted July 9th, 2026 on Niagara At Large

Every day, Ontario loses 319 acres of farmland. The Ford government wants to add 2,000 more to that number. Permanently.

Highway 413 is a $14 to $18 billion project that will pave over prime agricultural land, 400 acres of the Greenbelt, and 75 vulnerable wetlands. The benefit to drivers? An average of 30 to 60 seconds off their commute.

This isn’t a transit plan. It’s a handout to wealthy developers, paid for by you.

There is a faster, cheaper solution. Subsidizing truck tolls on the underused Highway 407 moves heavy traffic off the 401 today, without touching a single wetland.

Mike Schreiner and Aislinn Clancy are pushing for exactly that at Queen’s Park. Investing in public transportation is equally imperative. Opening up Highway 407 without better transit options will ultimately result in even more gridlock.
