Federal NDP MP Charlie Angus lashes back at Trump’s tariff war against Canada
Shortly after Trump launched his totally unjustified tariff war against Canada on what has come to be known as Tariff Tuesday on March 4th, 2025, Charlie Angus, a federal NDP MPP for the Riding of Timmins-James Bay in Ontario, delivered an address that I think articulated anger that I and many of my fellow Canadians felt and still feel today.
“Donald, we (Canadians) are nice people but you have really poked the polar bear,’ said Angus as he directly aimed some of his words at Trump.
“What we learned from Trump is that there is no normal anymore with the United States,” Angus added. “We have to build an economy for Canadians. We have to diversify our markets, and we have to build a Canadian economy that is resilient within Canada, so that no matter what that convicted predator from Mar-a-Lago threatens us, we are able to withstand the pressure.”
If you haven’t yet heard Angus’s address and are looking for something to help ventilate your feelings over what this orange-faced thug in the White House is trying to do to our Canada, I encourage you to click on the screen immediately below –
A Footnote from Doug Draper at Niagara At Large – Together, we Canadians can win this trade war by purchasing as many Made In Canada products as possible, by shopping and dining in as many Canadian-owned retail outlets and restaurants as possible, by cancelling all visits and vacations to the United States and by boycotting all things American.

” I have just finished reading Charlie Angus’ book ‘Desperate Memory: coming of age in the decade of Greed’. I have returned it to my library and it heads out to another library user. It is wonderful, memorizing, informative about the decade under Reagan, Thatcher, Mulroney and more on how that decade dismantled unions and lower middle class workers entirely and led to the awful, billionaire elite government we face today with Trump. Beautifully written, readable, recommended to all.” Gail Benjafield
