FORT ERIE –  The Town of Fort Erie celebrates Earth Day, April 22, 2026, by installing new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at four public locations to support cleaner transportation and reduce emissions.

With funding from Aviva and Earth Day Canada through the Charged for Change program, the Town has added four double-headed charging stations, bringing the total to eight charging ports.

Residents and visitors can now access charging at:

  • Town Hall Parking Lot, 1 Municipal Centre Drive
  • Crystal Beach Parking Lot, 4168 Erie Road
  • Crystal Ridge Public Library and Arena, 89 Ridge Road South
  • Jarvis Street Public Parking Lot, 97 Jarvis Street

The installation of EV charging stations reflects the Town’s continued progress under its Climate Change Action Plan. The plan outlines practical mitigation and adaptation actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support sustainable infrastructure, and respond to climate impacts.

It is designed as a living framework that evolves over time and builds on initiatives such as expanding electric vehicle use, enhancing natural assets, and improving energy efficiency across municipal operations.

The project advances the Town’s 2023 to 2026 Strategic Plan, specifically the Environmental and Climate Change Resiliency pillar. This pillar focuses on proactive action to address climate change, protect natural assets, and build a more sustainable and resilient community.

More About the Climate Change Action Plan

Fort Erie’s Climate Change Action Plan focuses on practical actions that protect the environment while improving quality of life in the community. The plan supports actions such as planting more trees, restoring habitat, supporting cleaner vehicles, and protecting biodiversity across the Town.

These actions also help address the impacts of climate change. Healthy natural landscapes absorb carbon, reduce heat, manage stormwater, and create stronger ecosystems that support wildlife and local agriculture.
