More Urban Sprawl Is Not A Housing Solution

Sprawl is the leading cause of farm, forest and wetland loss in Ontario.

There’s no doubt about it: Doug Ford’s supercharged sprawl agenda is an environmental wrecking ball.

Sprawl is the leading cause of farm, forest and wetland loss in Ontario. It makes us more vulnerable to climate impacts and food insecurity, and doubles down on climate pollution.

Ontario Greens know that sprawl isn’t a housing solution.

Luckily, there are plenty of common-sense solutions to build the homes we need in the communities we already know and love WITHOUT paving over protected land.

That’s why Greens leader Mike Schreiner tabled the HOMES YOU CAN AFFORD IN THE COMMUNITIES YOU LOVE ACT, which would make it easier to build more homes without touching urban boundaries.

Not only will this bring down soaring housing costs and help us meet our housing targets – building in existing neighbourhoods also makes it easier for us to embrace lower-carbon transportation options like trains, bikes, buses and walking.

It’s win-win-win.

                              Say yes to greener building.

It’s time to get building for the future. Will you join me in writing to Doug Ford and Housing Minister Paul Calandra  telling them to pass the Homes You Can Afford in Communities You Love Act when it’s up for debate in the legislature on February 28?

  1. I have no trust in petitions having any effect, nor writing to you MPP or MP or Minister on any issue. They are all ignored. Call me a cynic. - Gail Benjafield
