“Acts of racism and anti-Semitism are inexcusable and vile. … The use of hate symbols like swastikas and confederate flags traumatizes those who are targets of violence and oppression.”
A Call-Out to All of Us from Jagmeet Singh, Leader, Canada’s NDP

My heart is heavy and I’m sure yours is too.
Recent events in our capital have left Canadians feeling disheartened and fearful.
Businesses have been shuttered. Monuments have been desecrated. And there has been rampant flying of confederate flags and swastikas.
This needs to stop.
It’s easy to feel powerless when confronted with such violence, but the truth is we have a lot of power. We must use it to call on Ottawa to ban the display of hate symbols.
NDP MP Peter Julian has reintroduced a private members’ bill today that would prevent anyone from selling and displaying symbols that promote hatred and violence against identifiable groups.
We need your support to keep the pressure on the government to pass this bill.
The celebration of violence and genocide has no place in Canada. Sign the petition and call on Ottawa to ban hate symbols — NOW.

Everyone deserves to feel welcomed, respected, and safe in this country.
These acts of racism and anti-Semitism are inexcusable and vile. Hate should never be tolerate let alone normalized. The use of hate symbols like swastikas and confederate flags traumatizes those who are targets of violence and oppression.
We can only counter hateful rhetoric with support, solidarity, and action.
If we come together and push the government to act, we can make sure hate is given no space to take hold and no air to breathe. Let’s show them the power of our community, and take this critical step to address hate.
Join me and call on Ottawa to ban the display of hate symbols. It simply can’t wait another day.
Thanks, Jagmeet Singh, Leader, Canada’s NDP
