Ottawa, Ontario – Niagara Centre Member of Parliament Vance Badawey has been chosen by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to serve as Parliamentary Secretary to Minister of Indigenous Services, Patty Hajdu.

Niagara Centre MPP Vance Badawey, a former Mayor of Port Colborne and former Niagara Regional Councillor, is also a proud member of the Métis Nation,
The Prime Minister said the new team of Parliamentary Secretaries will be focused on working closely with the Liberal team to find real solutions to the challenges that Canadians face as the country finishes the fight against COVID-19 and builds a better future for everyone.
“Together, we will finish the fight against COVID-19, create jobs and middle-class growth, put home ownership back in reach, tackle the climate crisis, and walk the shared path of reconciliation,” the Prime Minister said.
Mr. Badawey has held leadership roles with the government before, serving as Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Vice-Chair of the Canada-US Inter-Parliamentary Group, Co-Chair of the Canada-U.S. Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Group and Vice-Chair of the Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations.
Before his election to parliament in 2015, he spent 17 years in local government, and was elected mayor of the City of Port Colborne four times.

A news release circulated by the Prime Minister’s Office this December 3rd said; ‘Parliamentary secretaries are chosen by the Prime Minister to assist ministers.
The responsibilities of parliamentary secretaries generally fall into two broad categories: House of Commons business and department-related duties.’
