A Brief One from Doug Draper –
This Thursday, November 15th is Thanksgiving Day for our American neighbours – a day that means more too many of them, from what my American friends have told me, than Christmas.
That’s because it is just a day for families and friends to get together around a dinner table and enjoy each other’s company.
For the better part of the past 30 years, my family – even though we are Canadians – were honoured to be invited to a beautiful in on Cape Cod, called Old Sea Pines, where a large gathering of friends came together each year to celebrate Thanksgiving until we got a little old to do a gathering that large and folded it with a lot of beautiful memories.
One of the traditions at the Inn, on Thanksgiving Day, was to play that oh so very long story song by Arlo Guthrie (son of the legendary Woody Guthrie) called Alice’s Restaurant.
As a tribute to all of my American friends, here it is, as performed by Arlo. You can watch it by clicking on the screen below –
