Niagara At Large Wishes Happy Thanksgiving to Our American Friends and Readers

Posted November 25th, 2021 on Niagara At Large

A Brief One from Doug Draper –

This Thursday, November 15th is Thanksgiving Day for our American neighbours – a day that means more too many of them, from what my American friends have told me, than Christmas.

That’s because it is just a day for families and friends to get together around a dinner table and enjoy each other’s company.

For the better part of the past 30 years, my family – even though we are Canadians – were honoured to be invited to a beautiful in on Cape Cod, called Old Sea Pines, where a large gathering of friends came together each year to celebrate Thanksgiving until we got a little old to do a gathering that large and folded it with a lot of beautiful memories.

One of the traditions at the Inn, on Thanksgiving Day, was to play that oh so very long story song by Arlo Guthrie (son of the legendary Woody Guthrie) called Alice’s Restaurant.

As a tribute to all of my American friends, here it is, as performed by Arlo. You can watch it by clicking on the screen below –

  1. Why ? they never wish Canadians happy anything ….

A response from Niagara At Large publisher Doug Draper – Sorry Mr. Hartwell, I don’t usually respond to someone’s comment but I have to on this one. I don’t know how many friends you have who live in the United States. My family has many and for as long as we can remember, we have received phone calls and cards wishing us a Happy Thanksgiving when we observe it in Canada. I know we have been having some problems in recent years with a vocal faction in the country to the south, but let’s be fair here. I know many Americans who are upset about the way this faction has treated Canada too.
