Ontario’s Niagara Parks Presents Art of Nature Series Including New Exhibit at the Butterfly Conservatory

Exhibit to showcase 30 visually stunning nature photographs, winners from the Canadian Geographic Wildlife Photography Contest

Niagara Falls, Ontario – In support of its mandate as the environmental and cultural stewards of the Niagara River corridor, Niagara Parks will be hosting the upcoming Art of Nature Series, including a travelling exhibit at the Butterfly Conservatory, along with specialty programming and hands-on workshops from February 16 through to April 28.

The exhibit will showcase 30 winning photographs from the Canadian Geographic Wildlife Photography Contest, as coordinated by the Canadian Museum of Nature and Canada Post, offering guests a closer look at incredible moments in Canadian nature, which have been captured on film.

Hands-on workshops and events encourage participants to explore various mediums of creative expression inspired by Canadian nature and wildlife, such as photography sessions with the Canadian Raptor Conservancy and do-it-yourself art and floral workshops.

Wooden Sign Workshop

  • Date:         *Thursday, March 7
    Time:        7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
    Cost:         $40

Hosted at the Niagara Glen Nature Centre, this workshop will be led by Paper and Sunshine owner, Carrie Houle. Guests will be guided to create their own rustic sign made of reclaimed wood, which they can then take home with them at the end of the night. Birds in Flight Photography Sessions

Date:        Saturday, March 16 and Saturday, April 13
Time:         8 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Cost:        $40

Intended for those with an interest in photography and a love for nature, these interactive sessions led by photography professionals begin with a class setting, followed by a walk through the beautiful Botanical Gardens. Representatives from the Canadian Raptor Conservancy will be bringing live birds of prey to assist, as participants are taught to train their eye to create beautiful indoor and outdoor nature photography.

Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens

Following the session, the Canadian Raptor Conservancy will be on-site for the duration of the day for free demonstrations featuring raptors from around the world. Participants in the photography classes are required to bring their own camera and to pre-register online: niagaraparks.com/artofnature.

Creative Painting Parties with Debi

  • Date:         Thursday, March 21
    Time:         7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
    Cost:         $40

Guests are invited to take part in this special painting event at the Niagara Glen Nature Centre. Led by Debbie Selib of Creative Painting Parties with Debi, participants will be painting their very own masterpiece depicting the Niagara Glen overlooking the Niagara River Whirlpool. Spring Floral Workshop

  • Date:        Thursday, April 11
    Time:        7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
    Cost:        $60

Led by talented Niagara Parks horticulturalists, participants will learn to create a personalized floral masterpiece, while enjoying light refreshments and the serene atmosphere of Floral Showhouse.
