Ontario’s Official Opposition Party Slams Ford’s Patronage Appointment Of His Family Lawyer

“Doug Ford has given his family’s lawyer, Gavin Tighe, a $667,000 government contract with the Public Accountants Council.” – Ontario’s Official Opposition and NDP Party

A News Release from Ontario’s New Democratic Party

Posted September 9th, 2018 on Niagara At Large

Ontario Premier Doug Ford and his “Government for the People.” He’s got you!

Taras Natyshak, NDP MPP for Essex, released the following statement regarding the appointment of Gavin Tighe, long-time Ford’s family lawyer and campaign donor, to chair the Public Accountants Council for the Province of Ontario.

“Doug Ford has given his family’s lawyer, Gavin Tighe, a $667,000 government contract with the Public Accountants Council.

This looks like yet another pricey patronage appointment for Ford’s friends and insiders – one that serves Ford and his friends, but not people or the province. Just like Ford’s decision to give his campaign advisor and political supporter Reuben Devlin a $1 million contract, with this new appointment, Ontarians are footing a big bill for Ford to repay favours to friends.”

A Brief Footnote from Niagara At Large reporter and publisher Doug Draper –

“We have taken back Ontario. We have delivered a government that is for the people,” declared Doug Ford in the hours following June 2018 election that delivered his Ontario Tories a majority government.

It also appears to be a government that is for rewarding Ford’s friends and supporters with lucrative patronage appointments.

During last spring’s election, Doug Ford slammed the then Wynne Liberal government for its patronage appointments and now he’s busy unplugging their cronies from public sector jobs and contracts and plugging in his own – the recent rewarding of a $667,000 government  of his family’s long-time lawyer Gavin Tighe being a case in point.

Who knows, perhaps there will be something  in the patronage sack for one or more retiring Niagara regional councillors in the months ahead.

  1. Why would anyone be surprised at this? DoFo is only going to do what pleases him and the people who backed him. The payoffs have started!

So, this is the guy who is going to save Ontario taxpayers money. What does he do, he spends way over 1/2 million hiring his family lawyer? Does he think he might need him in the future for deeds yet to be uncovered? Or, is he paving the way for when he is no longer Premier?
Was a search conducted for a possibly better candidate? A less expensive lawyer? I didn’t hear of one.
Seems better to be one of Doug Ford’s friends than it is to be a taxpayer in Ontario. For the sake of a couple of dollars per year per citizen of Ontario he cuts nearly half of Toronto City Council and thus half the servants looking after the interests of the taxpayers. Then Ford promptly spends over $600,000 to hire the family lawyer. Who is being served here? Certainly, taxpayers aren’t!
“Trump Tot” is at it again! Will we really be better off with Doug Ford? I bet not.
