Guided Hiking Tours of the Niagara Glen – Daily at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; $7.74 per person, 3050 Niagara Parkway
Guided hiking tours will depart from the Niagara Glen Nature Centre, taking visitors on a search for rare and unique spring blooms, birds and other wildlife found within the magnificent Niagara Glen. Tours require proper footwear suitable for rugged terrain.
Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse Annual Hydrangea Display – Daily 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Admission $5 Adults/$3.75 Children, ages 6 to 12, 7145 Niagara Parkway
The Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse is currently featuring its annual Hydrangea Display. Hanging baskets, some over five feet wide, overflowing with colourful Hydrangeas, as well as forced Foxglove and Delphinium are also part of the spectacular display of blues, pinks and white.
While at the Showhouse, guests will be able to enjoy the site of two developing Titan Arum buds, which are expected to bloom in mid-June/early-July. Considered the world’s tallest flowers, the Amorphophallus titanum, or Titan Arum, is a massive bell-shaped flower, growing up to three metres in height.
Aside from the massive size, the Titan Arum is also known for its unique smell. After flowering, a single leaf emerges in place of the blossom, which is the size of a small tree, standing up to six metres tall and five metres wide. This flower is exceedingly rare to see. Until 1989, fewer than 30 flowerings were recorded to have occurred in botanical gardens worldwide.
