Wayne Gates Brings Niagara’s Voice to Toronto Through Inaugural Speech

A Submission from Ontario’s NDP

Queen’s Park – This past Wednesday, March 5th, Wayne Gates made his inaugural speech to the Ontario Legislature as MPP for the riding of Niagara Falls where he thanked the people of the riding who elected him to take Niagara’s voice to Toronto.

Gates outlined his commitment to the people of the Niagara Falls riding and each community.

“As MPP, I will work hard to make sure this government builds the new Niagara Falls hospital, keeps the Fort Erie Race Track open permanently by bringing back the slots, keeps Parliament Oak Public School open and brings regular Go Train service to Niagara Falls.”

Gates, the NDP’s new advocate  for Jobs, Small Business and Training, outlined the NDP’s plan for jobs in the Niagara region.  He said the government should make sure the construction of the new Niagara Falls hospital includes provisions to hire local workers and to buy local products.

Gates said he will join NDP Leader Andrea Horwath and the NDP to fight to make life more affordable for families by providing relief on hydro bills.

“What people in Niagara and across the province know is that they can no longer afford to pay current hydro rates which are the highest in the country, let alone more rate increases,” Gates said.

The NDP today released its three point plan to reduce hydro rates for Ontario families and provide a $100 rebate.

The relief will come from ending the government’s $1 billion subsidy for exported power, cutting hydro bureaucracies, and putting an end to expensive private power deals.

Gates ended his inaugural speech today by acknowledging the contribution of young people to his campaign.

“It was young people who worked day in and day out in one of the worst winters on record.  They worked hard because they believed in the NDP’s plan to create jobs,” Gates said.  “We need to provide a better future for our children and grandchildren.”

  1. A very good first speech for MMP Wayne Gates , he hit all of the right notes and I wish him well , if he can make a difference by getting some of these on his wish list, that would be a vast improvement over the continual drip, drip of the takeaways of the Dalton Gang, stick up artists, what should be noticed that many people who used to vote “Green” went with the NDP to keep the Tims and Kathy’s out, it was not that long ago when the “Green Party of Niagara” garnered more votes than the NDP.The Greens will vote strategically when it is in the best interests of the Riding and taxpayers. The environment should also be in the equation as that is looming on the horizon. Dalton McGuinty made lot’s of promises on cleaning up the Lakes but that was soon forgotten after an election. I despise liars and this man Dalton always talked with a forked tongue.

Ralph Nader once said It matters not which party one votes for Republican (Conservative) or Democrat (Liberal) Hypothetically ……………………………they are both Corporate sponsored and owned thus being so the only people they are there to work for is the Corporations.

This Ontario Liberal government is in power due to the “STOP HUDAK” election agenda and they are NOW acting like the true architects of ONTARIO and are selling out the province and the people as if they were given a mandate to do so.
The Wynne leadership will; be short lived as I am certain the people of Ontario fully realize NOW the Privatizing agenda being forced on us by a dictatorial “should never have been” Wynne…
Totally enough to make people thoroughly disgusted with her and her Nero antics… I personally would NOT trust this woman to be anything more than a dog catcher and that is with reservation.

The next time they show her running in TV ads I hopefully suggest she give us a break and keep running until Ontario is far behind her..
