(Niagara At Large is posting the following release from the office of St. Catharines, Ontario MP Rick Dystra)
St. Catharines Member of Parliament Rick Dykstra says this week’s $30 million dollar cocaine seizure in St. Catharines once again highlights the Niagara Regional Police Service’s proactive campaign against the region’s drug traffickers, under Chief Wendy Southall.
Earlier this week, a property in central St. Catharines was raided by police, resulting in what the NRPS is calling “the largest ever seizure of cocaine” worth an estimated $30 million dollars street value. Two Niagara Falls men were arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. The investigation is still ongoing.
“Our region has been well-served by Chief Southall”, said Dykstra. “I wish her nothing but the best in her upcoming retirement and this is certainly a great way for her to go out.”

Add to MP Rick Dykstra’s comments the comments made by Todd Shoalts of the Niagara Regional Police board that “Wendy’s been a tremendous police chief for our service” and continued with “She’s led the service with courage, conviction and integrity.”
Shoalts said the chief earned the board’s respect and they wished her luck in her retirement.
As Chief of Police she held the line on spending, endured plenty of political abuse, and an overload of peer envy, all the while leading the charge against years of built up crime.
On almost a daily basis reports pour in of drug busts, successful crime interdiction, and heroism by the NRP.
Chief Wendy Southall has definitely raised the bar for those who follow and has set a high standard for everyone in public service.
Not bad for a ‘mere woman’ or as Mayor McMullan put it; ‘a failed experiment’!

Wasn’t the police chief just doing what she was hired to do?
Glad the police were successful with the drug bust, but again they are paid to get the bad guys. NRP heroes, really?
