A Message From Niagara At Large publisher Doug Draper
If you are a regular Niagara At Large reader, you will notice a lot less action on this news and commentary site over the next few weeks.
That is because we are taking a little time during these dog days of summer to recharge our batteries and to plan ahead for a busy late summer and fall, and for much more of the kind of news and commentary that adds up to the virtual ‘Town Hall meetings’ Niagara At Large is proud to engage in with the residents of our greater binational Niagara on a host of issues.
In Niagara, Ontario, residents face possibly the most important municipal elections in a generation this October in terms of who is going to finally lead our communities in ways that are economically and environmentally sustainable through the first half of the 21st century. For residents on both sides of our binational border, there are issues like health care, employment, protecting the ecology of our Great Lakes and what is left of our manufacturing sector, the gridlock at border bridges, and protecting and preserving our heritage most treasured landscapes while building toward a more prosperous future.
And, of course, Niagara At Large also looks forward to building on a record we are proud of when it comes to covering some of the great festivals, and other cultural and heritage events that enrich the lives of all of us who make Erie and Niagara Counties, New York, and Niagara, Ontario our home.
In the meantime, we will be We will be slowing down for the moment, however, although we won’t be away completely. We will continue, over the next few weeks, to moderate and posts comments we hope you will continue to contribute to news and commentary on this site. And we will continue to post the odd piece we feel needs to get out there.
Most particularly, there is a report due for release early this August by Ontario’s ombudsman on what many in Niagara, Ontario believe was an almost total lack of regard for public input into a so-called ‘Hospital Improvement Plan’ unveiled two years ago this summer for the region. You can count on Niagara At Large to be there with news and commentary on that.
We will also be here to accept any news and commentary that you and others may want to contribute to this site. As you can see by scrolling down our home page through the first dozen or so posts, we welcome news and commentary from others on matters of interest to people in our binational region, including our friends and neighbours in Western New York. You can send your news and commentary, or simply send your ideas for a post you may wish to contribute, to drapers@vaxxine.com, remembering that at the moment, we are all still doing this for free here while we launch a campaign for donations or (if necessary) post advertising on this site.
Thank you for being one of the readers who has contributed to the more than 150,000 direct hits this site has received, along with many more who read posts on this site through subscriptions or have read them on other online venues where some of our work has been posted around the world.
We many be slowing down for a couple of weeks, but we will back with a vengeance – we promise you.
(Visit Niagara At Large for more news and commentary on matters of interest and concern to residents in our greater binational Niagara region.)
A much needed rest, no doubt. 🙂
