“We’ve been fighting for two-way, all-day GO Service to Niagara Falls since 2014, so there’s no question we’re frustrated to see daily service moving in the wrong direction.” – Niagara Falls NDP MPP Wayne Gates

NIAGARA– Ontario NDP MPPs Jennie Stevens (St. Catharines) and Wayne Gates (Niagara Falls) blasted Metrolinx for cutting three of five GO Trains to and from Niagara, and the Ford government for its continual refusal to hold them accountable.
“After almost a decade of calling on this government to increase service, we’re now taking 10 steps backwards,” said Stevens.
“Niagara residents can’t be getting into Union Station for 9:00 a.m. on the direct train from St. Catharines, so they end up driving to Burlington to catch an earlier train that gets them into the city in time for work or school. This defeats the purpose of using public transportation and adds to roadway congestion.”
In June, Stevens advocated for the train times to change out of the St. Catharines station to accommodate Niagara residents working in Toronto.
“Doug Ford has repeatedly allowed Metrolinx to overspend taxpayer dollars while delivering more delays and worse service. We continue to call for a full public inquiry into Metrolinx to stop this unaccountable bureaucracy from trampling on hard-working people, while wasting their time and money.”

“We’ve been fighting for two-way, all-day GO Service to Niagara Falls since 2014, so there’s no question we’re frustrated to see daily service moving in the wrong direction,” said Gates. “What is worse is that right now it takes almost three hours to get from Toronto to Niagara Falls because the work on the track hasn’t finished, and that’s a problem the Premier is choosing to ignore.
“While other parts of this province get deals with their rail partners or funding to build new tracks, we’re getting service cuts because the work isn’t finished. It makes no sense.”
“The Premier needs to get to the table with all parties and figure out how to fix this, finish the repairs on the Niagara corridor, and restore services.”
