From Doug Draper, Niagara At Large
Final Days of December, 2015
We at Niagara At Large are thrilled to have our mascot Pinky – one tiny but might chiwawa – here for a holiday visit and joining us in wishing you the best in 2016.
If you are a regular follower of news and commentary on Niagara At Large, you may remember Pinky’s last visit to NAL headquarters during Canada’s 2015 federal election. It was a bit of a roller coaster ride for her, as it was for many of us.
She was accused by Stephen Harper supporters of showing some of the tell-tale symptoms of what they called “Harper Derangement Syndrome”, with her muffled growls and flashes of tongue and teeth at almost every mention of Harper’s name and when it looked, during the early days of the race, like his Conservatives still had a chance of winning another term of government.
Some Harperites even accused her of being a partisan for the NDP or Liberals, depending on which party they loathed the most and despite the fact that on that score, her belief in a universal pharma care program that would make prescription drugs affordable for all Canadians and in closing down the tar sands had her tilting, on principle, in the direction of the Green Party.
And as the only dog we at NAL know with dual Canadian/U.S. citizenship, when Pinky is States side, she’s barking for Bernie – Bernie Sanders, that is, because she’s wrapped her paws around his belief that billionaires should pay their fair share.
But when all of the tiring same-old, same-old and partisan cat fighting is done, Pinky takes pride in being a card-carrying canine for progressive change and is also proud to be a mascot for an online news site in our greater binational Niagara region that serves as a voice for progressive change.
We all look forward to joining you in pressing for progressive change in 2016.
NOW IT IS YOUR TURN. Niagara At Large encourages you to share your views on this post. A reminder that we only post comments by individuals who share their first and last name with them.
