“Anything that prevents journalists and artists from doing their work is a real blow to the soul of society.” – World renowned author Salman Rushdie
“The Fake News (journalists) hate me saying that they are the Enemy of the People only because they know it’s true.” – U.S. President Donald Trump

Author and free speech champion Salman Rushdie (left) and authoritarian Donald Trump
Over the past 48 hours or so, Donald Trump has taken the United States one more giant goose stop closer to complete authoritarian rule by banning three major news organizations – MSNOW (former MSNBC), CNN and Politico – from entering the grounds of the White House for press briefings or any other coverage.
And why? Because as he pretty much said it himself, he doesn’t like their news coverage because he doesn’t find it favourable to him.
Never mind the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution that is supposed to guarantee press freedom as one of the most important pillars of free speech and democracy.
In the wake of this, MSNOW aired an interview this September 19th with one of the true champions of free speech, Salman Rushdie, who almost lost his in a hateful attack by a knife-wielding fanatic while he was on the state of a theatre in Chautauqua, New York four years ago talking about that very subject.
The interview comes as a film documentary about Rushdie’s ordeal and his continue campaigning for free speech, called Knife, is about the hit screens.
I can’t help but share that MSNOW interview at a time when we should all be doing whatever we can to support Rushdie in his campaign for free speech.
