A Brief Comment by Niagara At Large reporter/publisher Doug Draper

I was in a grocery store near my Thorold home in St. Catharines, Ontario this January 24th and it was packed with people picking up some last minute things before “the great storm” this Sunday, January 25th sweeps in.
I asked a cashier about the size of the line she was dealing with and she said, literally in these words; “They are preparing for the Armagideon.”
Sounds kind of ominous, doesn’t it?
But according to weather forecasters, we are about to be walloped with a winter storm in Niagara and surrounding regions that could be very crippling in terms of doing anything else other than staying in our homes and hoping our power doesn’t go out.
So take all the precautions you can – keep flashlights and candles handy – and do everything else you can to look after yourselves and your friends and neighbours.
And with that, we will see you on the other side.

For all of those that are worrying about the upcoming storm there are a few wise words that former (Buffalo) Mayor Jimmy Griffin used to calm the residents of Buffalo New York at a time like this. “Just sit back and drink a 6 pack”
The actual quote from Jimmy Griffin (former Mayor of Buffalo) came from the Blizzard of ’85. A lot of people were starting to get worried about some of the snow that was coming and Griffin’s response was ““Stay inside, grab a six-pack, and watch a good football game,”
