I’m not sure many people would visit this news and commentary site to read a post about illuninating the Horseshoe and American Falls for the opening of the baseball season.

But I have always loved baseball. It’s my favourite team sport, so please indulge me for a moment.

The only thing I find a drag about the opening of the baseball season is the weather. Isn’the spring opener supposed to come with a little more warmth outside?

Members of the Blue Jays take a little time off to visit the Falls in 2023.

Except for a few unusually warm days this past March. we’ve been striking out on that front and I can see myself up there in the cheap seats at the ball stadium with heavy coat on and yelling foul.

Enough of that though.

Time to start cheering on the Blue Jays, my late mother’s favourite team (Going back to one of the best pitchers, Bob Gibson, and best base stealers, Lou Brock, in the game) I’ve been a St. Louis Cardinals fan myself) or whoever your favourite team may be.

Now here is the news from Niagara Parks –

Some Blue Jays players emerge from ‘The Tunnel’ below the Falls during their visit last year

Niagara Falls, ONTARIO   –  The Niagara Falls Illumination Board will illuminate Niagara Falls in blue and white on April 7th to celebrate the Toronto Blue Jays 2024 home opener. Toronto Blue Jays are set to play the Seattle Mariners at Rogers Centre in Toronto on April 8th.

The Falls will be lit up at 10:15 pm, in support for the team. Blue Jays players previously visited Niagara Falls, including a stop at the Illumination tower last year, as part of their 2023 Winter Tour.

All special illumination requests are reviewed and approved by the Niagara Falls Illumination Board, which has financed and operated the “illumination of Niagara Falls” since 1925.

The Niagara Falls Illumination Board is made up of representatives from the City of Niagara Falls Ontario, City of Niagara Falls, New York, Ontario Power Generation Inc., New York Power Authority, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and The Niagara Parks Commission.

It is the Illumination Board’s responsibility and mandate to finance and maintain the nightly illumination of both the Horseshoe and American Falls.
