NIAGARA REGION, Ontario – After careful consideration and in response to community needs, Niagara Region Transit (NRT) will maintain full transit service on April 8th, during the Solar Eclipse.
This decision reflects the commitment of NRT to ensure continuous transportation accessibility for residents and visitors alike.
While acknowledging the likelihood of significant delays, NRT urges riders to consider essential travel only on April 8th and to anticipate prolonged wait times. In preparation for the solar event, a full complement of supervisors will be deployed across all hubs and terminals to monitor service adjustments as necessary.
Due to anticipated network congestion, it is expected that limited or no onboard technology will be available. Instead, communication and tracking will be facilitated through the LMR radio system for all vehicle operations.
Though every attempt will be made to provide up to date information online and across social media channels, there is the potential that the cellular network congestion may also lead to delays in providing real time information.
In adherence to safety protocols, viewing glasses will be provided to staff with strict instructions against their use while driving. During the period of totality, all buses will pull over under the direction of Supervision.
