ST. CATHARINES, Niagara — New Democrats in St. Catharines have selected incumbent MPP Jennie Stevens to be their Ontario NDP candidate in the 2022 provincial election.
Stevens currently serves as the NDP’s critic for Veterans, Legions and Military Affairs.
“I’m honoured to once again run to represent the people of St. Catharines, the place I was born and raised in, and the community I love.”
“The last couple of years have been tough, but as Ontario recovers, we have a chance to make life better for families and tackle the big issues like affordability, making sure seniors can age with dignity, and giving our children the best education possible. With Andrea and the New Democrat team, we will build a government that’s in it for everyday people, and invest in the important things families in St. Catharines rely on, like long-term care, affordable child care and smaller class sizes in our public schools.” – Jennie Stevens, NDP candidate for St. Catharines
“Jennie is a strong voice for the people of St. Catharines, and a compassionate fighter for the things that matter most to them. She pushes back against Doug Ford’s agenda of big cuts and bad decisions and always puts working families first. Jennie is an important member of our New Democrat team, and, together, just imagine what we can do for the people of St. Catharines with an NDP government. We can finally fix long-term care, invest in education and health care, and make it possible for the next generation to afford a home.” – Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath
* Stevens served Merritton Ward as City Councillor for 15 years, after which she became the first woman elected to represent St. Catharines as MPP.
* Stevens has introduced legislation to prevent intimate partner violence as well as to provide better access to long-term care beds for Veterans.
* Stevens has been advocating on behalf of St. Catharines families for more long-term care beds, better protections for renters, more affordable child care, and much more.
* Stevens is a life-long St. Catharines resident, where she lives with her husband. She has two children and four wonderful grandchildren.
