A Brief Commentary by Doug Draper

After 20 beloved years in our family, he took a few labored breaths while sleeping in my arms and passed out of our lives.
His name was Dylan and yes, to some, he was only a cat, but he was a most wise and loving member of this family of ours. And we still miss him, as we do Dexter, another cat in our home at the time who cried out loud – yes he did – while Dylan was breathing his last, and who left us a few weeks later.
It’s as if Dexter knew Dylan was passing, and it took such a toll on him that he, at the age of 16, decided to give it up too.
These wonderful animals are so mysterious and they are so intelligent. They may be more intelligent than we humans will ever know.
And God how we miss them, and wish they were here during the pandemic nightmare to come. There continued warmth and unconditional love would have meant so much.
But that’s the way it goes.
We will always cherish them both.
