A Statement from Niagara Regional Chair Jim Bradley on Seniors Month

Niagara Regional Chair Jim Bradley

“Every June, we take time to acknowledge the substantial contributions that seniors and older adults make in our community.

This year, the theme for Seniors Month is Stay Safe, Active and Connected – this is particularly fitting as we continue to cope with the impacts of COVID-19 across Niagara.

Seniors and older adults continue to play an important role in our community by making significant contributions to our economy and volunteering thousands of hours each year to non-profit organizations.

Older adults in Niagara have a tremendous positive influence on the quality of live for everyone in our region, and Seniors Month is an excellent time to reflect on those contributions.

The pandemic has been particularly challenging for older adults as they faced higher levels of isolation, while many dealt with the most serious health impacts of the virus. Now that vaccines are flowing through our community, it is my hope that we will soon see a return to normal for seniors across Niagara.”

Appointments to receive the COVID-19 vaccine are currently available at (click link here) <https://www.niagararegion.ca/health/covid-19/vaccination/appointment-booking.aspx>, and I invite all residents to consider booking their shot today.

Niagara Region, and the 12 local municipalities, offer numerous programs and services designed specifically for seniors living in our community. I invite everyone to familiarize yourself with our community programs for seniors <https://www.niagararegion.ca/living/seniors/programs/default.aspx> as they can help older adults live active, healthy and independent lives.
