Lincoln, Ontario – Coming out of a closed session of the Special Council Meeting on May 10, 2021, Town of Lincoln Council passed a motion to maintain greenspace and preserve park lands in the community, as per the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan.
The motion also confirms that the Elizabeth Street property will not be sold and that the park will be remain open for community use.
“Through this motion, Council continues to advance our priorities of being a Connected and Resilient community,” said Town of Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton. “The Town continues to invest in parks and green spaces so that they can be enjoyed by Lincoln residents and visitors for many generations.”
“I’m very pleased that Council has supported this motion demonstrating our commitment to preserving parkland in Ward 2 and throughout Lincoln,” said Ward 2 Councillor Tony Brunet. “Public parks are key elements for maintaining and building a greater sense of community.”
Ward 2 Councillor J.D. Pachereva also added that well-connected green spaces provide opportunities to stay active and healthy. “By preserving and expanding our existing park spaces, we are ensuring residents have access to nature as well as healthy and active lifestyles through a robust active transportation network.”
“When developing the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan in 2019, we heard clearly from the community members that there is strong support for an expanded parks system,” noted Town of Lincoln CAO Mike Kirkopoulos.
“This Plan is our guiding document for parks investments in Lincoln, to guide us in meeting growth-related needs and ensuring accessibility to parkland – both in growing and established neighbourhoods.”
