Ford Is Mostly About Shelling Out Our Tax dollars to His Party’s Supporters and Private Sector, Big Business Pals , and Good Luck to the Rest of Us

After more than a year of going through hell with Covid-19 in Ontario, at least one thing should be clear.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford and his Conservative government have never really cared all that much about anyone in this province as much as they care about wealthy business people, and their party’s donors and bedrock supporters.
It is why, during the past terrible 12 months of this pandemic, Ford and his Tories have used this pandemic as a shield to continue gutting programs for protecting natural features of our environment that experts around the world say are an important buffer for protecting us against rogue viruses like COVID-19/
It is why, during province-wide lockdowns, he has continued to allow gargantuan corporate chains like Walmart to remain open while closing the doors on small, independent, family-owned businesses – including to the point of giving a pass to his Tory minion in Niagara – Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff – for so arrogantly flouting mask rules at a popular family restaurant in Niagara Falls last year.
It is why, when he was asked by members of opposition parties in Ontario and others, he offered no support to grocery store and other retail workers when billionaire families like the Westons (owners of Shopper Drug Marks, and a chain of Loblaws, Zehrs and other affiliated grocery chains) decided to stop paying their frontline employees an additional $2 per hour Covid bonus, even while pigs like the Westons have been making record profits during this pandemic.
It is why his government will not move on getting rid of private, for-profit long-term care homes in Ontario, where records show the most deaths in LTC homes are occurring, and instead gives these private operators more of our money (allegedly for resource support for seniors) that they might simply shove in to the pockets of their shareholders.
It is why they will not order farmers who exploit migrant workers to provide those workers with safe living conditions, including proper protective gear to prevent COVID outbreaks.
Indeed, the agriculture industry – a rural sector that is largely libertarian and a supporter of extreme, right-wing governments like Ford’s – continues to receive one hand-out of our money after another to support them. Interesting, for a group that otherwise opposes welfare.
I could go on, and will only say that Ford and his government have done a lousy job on the vaccine roll-out, by many accounts, and where are the vaccines anyway?
And even when there are vaccines like Pfizer or Moderna available in Ontario, the Ford government seems to have no problem throwing aside the science behind what got these vaccines approved for use in the first place, and extending the second dose for up to four months, rather than for the 21 to 27 days the producers of the vaccine recommended.
Indeed, Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the foremost infectious disease experts in the world, has called out against extending the administering of the second shot of these vaccines.
But Ford and company seem far more intent on getting a first shot in as many arms as possible, and damn the torpedoes. It is also pretty clear by now that all they really care about is getting back to the old, pre-pandemic normal as soon as possible, at just about any cost.
Through all of this, Ford’s Conservative government is continuing to put our lives and the health and welfare, including the economies, of the communities we live in at risk.
I believe that the Ford government’s record on addressing the health disaster that is COVID-19 will go down in infamy.
So much so, that his April 5th, 2021, CBC’s flagship news program, The National, led with a story on regional health leaders across the province beginning to rebel against the Ford government’s efforts, and instituting protection strategies of their own for public and private places, and for schools.
