Horwath responds to exploding COVID case numbers as Ford waits for vaccine

HAMILTON, Ontario — Official Opposition NDP Leader Andrea Horwath released the following statement in response to today’s (this December 15th, 2020) daily COVID-19 case numbers surging past the 2,000-mark to a record-high 2,275:
“Today’s exploding COVID-19 case numbers in Ontario are the biggest alarm bell yet that just waiting for a vaccine is a dangerous plan.
Doug Ford has been withholding $12 billion in COVID-19 funding, and it would be wrong of him to keep sitting on it.
As we head into the holidays, Mr. Ford is condemning families to more pain and suffering because he just doesn’t want to spend the money, so instead he’s waving a white flag in the fight against COVID.
Is Ontario Premier Doug Ford doing en?ough to conquer COVID-19? What’s with the soaring case counts?
We can take some comfort knowing that the vaccine is a light at the end of the tunnel, but that can’t be an excuse to stop taking urgent and necessary actions today.
If I were the premier today, I’d be hiring thousands of staff and infection control experts for long-term care homes, capping class sizes and doing widespread in-school testing, and ensuring people all have paid sick days in order to stop the spread of COVID in workplaces, and more.”
