A Brief Note to Readers from Niagara At Large reporter and publisher Doug Draper

In a piece I posted on the Niagara At Large news and commentary site earlier this Tuesday, September 15th, I left a very important (one might even say key or critical) word out of a sentence I wrote about the current state of democracy in Canada, the United States and other parts of the world.

The word I left out in a point I was making about the state of democracy in Canada versus what has been happening in the United States under Trump was the word NOT –  as in (and here goes the whole sentenc,e) – ‘Let’s hope that we are NOT slowly moving in the same direction in Canada.’

Anyone out there who regularly reads my commentary on Niagara At Large and is familiar with how I feel about Trump, may have read that sentence without the word NOT in it earlier this September 15th and wondered if perhaps I had been taken hostage and forced to write it – minus that word – at gun point.

I can assure all of you that my captors would have to shoot me before I would ever knowingly post that sentence without the word NOT in it.

That is my way of saying that the absence of that word in the piece I posted earlier this September 15th and headlined; ‘Canada’s PM Celebrates Democracy at a Time When Populism and Fascism are Haunting the U.S and So Many Other Countries Around the World’, was an embarrassing mistake on my part.

Sorry about that.

And may democracy survive here in Canada and in the United States of America.

Here is hoping that enough of our American neighbours to show us democracy is still alive in their country this coming November when they vote Trump out of office.
