“This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.” – from Donald Trump’s Inaugural Address, January 2017
“Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it.” – Donald Trump, during a media scrum on the White House lawn in June of 2019
A Commentary by Niagara At Large reporter and publisher Doug Draper, including one of the most powerful ads to date on Trump’s failure of leadership

To think that it was five years ago this June that the self-declared “stable genius” and his pole dancer of a bride road down that escalator in the atrium of Trump Tower where the ‘genius’ announced he was embarking on a crusade to “make America great again.”
At the risk of sounding like a wise guy, I don’t think it took a real stable genius to predict then that if Trump were to actually win what still was, at the time, the most powerful office on the planet; it wasn’t going to end well.
For those of us who took the time to study this reality TV huckster’s history and could see through his con job, there was always a concern in the back of our minds that if and when faced with a looming threat or crisis, the wheels would come flying off the clown bus and he might have his country and the world stumbling into a nuclear war or something equally as catastrophic.
All we could do was brace ourselves while wondering who so many millions of others not only fell for this wing nut’s B.S., but continued to worship and cheer him on through his tsunami of lies, and through one corrupt, disgusting or destructive act after another.
So here we now are, not quite five years after that ride down the escalator, and look at what we’ve got – a breakout of a killer virus running so rampant that it is continuing to pose an epic threat to peoples’ lives and the economy, for people across the United States, and for neighbouring regions in Canada.
As I post this, the death count in the United States – which, barely more than a week ago, had surpassed the 58,000 American casualty count from more than 10 years of fighting in Vietnam – is now some 78,000 and rising by more than 2,000 a day.
Think about it, in the U.S. alone, that is 78,000 people who were here just four or five months ago, spending the Holiday Season and ringing in the New Year with friends and families. And now, just like that, they are gone.
Then there is the devastating impact of an economy that, within a matter of weeks, has seen many millions of people unemployed, with job losses and businesses dying at a rate comparable to the Great Depression of the 1930s.
And there is the “stable genius,” increasingly unhinged, suggesting people might try drinking or shooting up Clorox Bleach or Lysol to protect themselves from the virus, while pushing states to open back up and pitching delusional dreams about the virus being gone and the economy bouncing back to record heights before the end of the year.
In my view, no one has summed up the mess that America is now in better than a group of now ex-Republican Strategists that call themselves ‘The Lincoln Project’ in a recent ad that got under Trump’s skin so much he was up at 1 a.m., “rage tweeting” about it all night when it first made its debut around the beginning of this May.
If you haven’t seen it, it is well worth showing to anyone who took the character with the orange hair seriously. You can watch it by clicking on the screen immediately below –
Finally, here is a recent segment from the MSNBC news program, ‘The 11th Hour with Brian Williams’, that focuses on the ad, and features a brief interview with a member of The Lincoln Project, former Republic Party strategist Steve Schmidt who, among other things, helped run John McCain’s presidential campaign a decade ago. With the emergence of Trump, he, like many others, quit the party in disgust.
To watch that segment featuring what Steve Schmidt has to say about Trump’s handling of the ongoing health disaster facing his country and all of us, click on the screen below –
Mr. Schmidt has done a masterful job of summing it all up.
Now let’s hope that for the sake of his country, and for Canada and the rest of the world, the American people throw this dangerous clown out of office this coming November.
