“Trudeau’s actions don’t match his sales pitch. He could have chosen to help people, but he chose to help his wealthy friends and big corporations instead. And we know Scheer’s Conservatives are no better – they’re only offering more cuts to services.” – Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh

A Message from Canada’s federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh

Posted June 17th, 2019 on Niagara At Large

This June 16th, we unveiled our vision for Canada that will make life better – and more affordable – for people. This is our roadmap to what’s possible – it’s our commitment to Canadians about the kind of choices we’d make.

We’re committed to taking on the health care crisis. Instead of letting our health care get slowly stripped away, we’re fighting for a historic expansion to services – starting with pharmacare that covers everyone, but with a vision to expand further – dental care, vision care, mental health care, addictions and substance abuse care. I know the impact these services can have on families – and what happens when people can’t access them, or have to pay out of pocket.

We’ve committed to making life easier for Canadians by fighting for 500,000 affordable and quality units of housing, creating at least 300,000 jobs to kick start the transition to a clean economy, prioritizing our public services, fighting hate and intolerance, and working towards true reconciliation.

With a clear vision for the Canada we’re fighting for, I’m excited for what this election – and the future – holds.

But now it’s my job to travel across the country and make sure every Canadian knows about it – from coast to coast to coast. I believe our vision will inspire people who are looking for leaders who will do things differently. But it means I need to connect with as many people as possible.

It’s getting harder and harder to find good jobs that people can raise their families on. And people are having to face impossible choices between putting groceries on the table or paying for their medication. While the rich get richer, ordinary families are being forced to pay the price – for pollution, for cuts to services, and for skyrocketing tuition fees.

Trudeau’s actions don’t match his sales pitch. He could have chosen to help people, but he chose to help his wealthy friends and big corporations instead. And we know Scheer’s Conservatives are no better – they’re only offering more cuts to services.

Canadians deserve leaders who will stick to their word and make different choices, and our vision lays out a clear path to getting results for people.

But now we need to show people that if we want a different future, we need to make different choices – and we need leaders with the courage to act. I want to reach every single Canadian with this vision, so that when they’re casting their vote, they know exactly what New Democrats stand for.
